Some vehicles require an adaptor to install the Fumoto oil drain valve. You will require an adaptor when your sump drain hole is recessed - the lever of the Fumoto valve hits the sump and does not allow it to screw into the drain hole. In this case, an adaptor (which is really just an extension) will allow it to tighten all the way down.
